Cardinals vs. Cowboys Player of the Game

Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports

The game was ugly, but there are more than enough candidates worthy of a game ball.

Cardinal fans saw the ghost of the team in 2012, with an excellent defensive performance, but the offense struggling. While that was the case, several offensive guys earned a spot on this list of five guys worthy of a game ball. Let's take a look.

Kerry Taylor:

Four catches for 85 yards. He missed last weeks game after he appeared to be having a good camp. He's listed as the #4 receiver on the roster, for now, but he stated his claim to keep his position with his run after the catch ability.

Tony Jefferson:

Had a quite start to his career in OTA's and the beginning of Training Camp, However, over the last week he's turned it on, and last night he made five solo tackles, two for a loss, as well as intercepted two balls, one during the Cowboys attempt to make a comeback. He's stating his claim to make the roster with Jonathan Amaya ailing.

The Offensive-Line:

Yet again the O-Line had yet another solid performance in pass protection. The first unit allowed 0 sacks again, with only one pressure in Carson Palmer's face. They still struggled in run blocking, but we caught a few glimpses at what they could be if they continue to work at it.

Jasper Brinkley:

Now, we could say he struggled in run support, but his hustle to the ball on two occasions where he recovered it was excellent, and showed his case to fend off Kevin Minter, for now.

Tyrann Mathieu:

He got his first start this year, in place of the injured Rashad Johnson, and he performed well. Made good tackles, and barely mistimed a pick six. For fans questioning if the kid could survive a whole game, he essentially did that, starting with the ones, and going to nearly the end of the fourth quarter. He's far from a finished product, but his film thus far is encouraging.
