If you were at Arizona Cardinals practice on Friday, you would have noticed that the offensive pace picked up a bit. That would be because the team is progressing offensively. Head coach Bruce Arians spoke to the media after Saturday walk throughs and praised his players, saying "it was nice to see the offense really play well" on Friday.
"I thought yesterday, the light went on offensively for a lot of guys," he said. "It was great to see them understand and be able to play the fastest they have played since we have been here and the entire unit. So it was, by far, the offense's best practice. They're starting to grasp the concepts and our defense is throwing a lot at them."
Starting quarterback Carson Palmer said on Friday that the offense is the most complex he has been in, but he is making good progress. Arians said he was "really pleased" with Palmer's grasp of the offense. "He has a real good grasp of it," he said.
He notes that the coaches spend more time with the QBs than the rest of the unit. "They get ahead of the rest of the team," explained Arians. "(Palmer's) getting it and the receivers are now finally getting it and they're starting to hit the same page, not just on hots and sites, but on routes and adjustments."
This offseason has been all about rebulding what was one of the worst offensive units in all of football in 2012. The installation is almost complete. The team has installed about "98.9 percent" of it, leaving "only a few wrinkles."
Already it looks like it will be potentially unit that can produce. The schemes are aggressive. The quarterback is experienced. The skill players are talented. The offensive line appears to be upgraded.
There is a lot to be excited about.
The team's first preseason game in Friday in Green Bay. That will be our first real look.
Are you excited? It's almost time for real football games, and the Cardinals offense might actually be able to put points on the board.
