Cardinals Vs. Packers: Arizona starters to get about 15 plays in preseason opener

Christian Petersen

The starters will not get extended play in their first game action.

The Arizona Cardinals have their first game action of the preseason this coming Friday, as they travel to Wisconsin to play the Green Bay Packers. One question that is typical of this time of training camp is how much the starters will play.

Head coach Bruce Arians addressed it, as Darren Urban tweeted on Monday.

Offensively, if things go well, that would mean a series or two. Defensively, it would be the same.

There is a fine line to balance during the preseason. You want the starters to get work in live game action, but you don't want key players getting hurt (see Levi Brown in 2012). You want to see the players battling for a starting job, but you want it in the right context (playing against starters). But then you need to see the guys that are simply battling for the roster.

15 plays? Sounds like it would be enough. Hopefully the results are good -- points from the offense and stops by the defense.
