Arizona Cardinals reportedly bring in veteran pass rusher Mark Anderson for a visit

The team has one roster spot available, could look to fill it with a pass rusher.

The Arizona Cardinals took a hit when they lost both their starting outside linebackers for the season with injuries they suffered in their team's 31-7 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Sam Acho and Lorenzo Alexander were both placed on injured reserve on Monday, ending their season.

The team also promoted Dontay Moch from the practice squad, but that leaves one roster spot on the 53-man roster, which means another move is coming.

It could be to add a pass rusher from free agency.

According to Howard Balser, veteran DE/OLB Mark Anderson visited the team or was set to come visit (the tweet did not clarify which).

Anderson, who was cut this offseason by the Buffalo Bills, has played in eight seasons and has played mostly defensive end on 4-3 defensive teams, but he has also played outside linebacker for some 3-4 teams.

At 6-4, 255 pounds and 30 years old, he has logged 36.5 sacks in his career and twice has had 10 in a season, the most recent year coming in 2011 with the New England Patriots.

He has not been a full time starter since 2007 with the Bears, but found great success as a passing down edge rusher in 2011 with the Pats. He had 10 sacks during the regular season and picked up another 11 tackles and 2.5 sacks in three playoff games.

Would he be a good fit? Perhaps. Of course, there is always the school of thought that says that someone unemployed at this time of year does not have a job for a reason. However, with so many veteran players left unsigned, he simply could have been victim of the market.
