Fantasy football 2013: Cardinals vs. Buccaneers start 'em, sit 'em

Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

With both offenses struggling in week three, who should you feel comfortable playing on your fantasy team this Sunday?

Offensive stand-outs promise to be hard to find in this match-up between two of the NFL's best defenses. The Buccaneers' offense is a mess right now, with their top two wide receivers missing practices and their franchise quarterback being benched in favor of rookie Mike Glennon. The Cardinals will look to put their worst offensive showing of the season behind them on the road against a dominant Tampa Bay defense that is stacked with talent at every position. Tread carefully.

Offense

Start 'em

Doug Martin - Martin is the Bucs' only offensive weapon right now. With the team starting a rookie quarterback, expect them to go to Martin early and often.

Larry Fitzgerald - Whether the Cardinals are in a knock-down slobberfest or aerial barrage, Fitzgerald is just too good to sit. He appeared to have put the hamstring injury behind him in New Orleans and was a full participant in practice all week. He might not have a huge day, but you can count on him for solid production.

Sit 'em

Everyone else - The Cardinals' struggles against New Orleans should be fresh on fantasy owners' minds, and it will be difficult for them to right the ship against Tampa Bay. They may be able to grind out a victory, but there aren't any favorable fantasy match-ups. It's a similar story for Tampa Bay's offense. Unless Mike Glennon seriously exceeds expectations, this is a group to avoid right now.

Defense/IDP

Start 'em

Both defenses - Simply put, the Bucs' defense is a terror. The Cardinals' D will look to take advantage of a mistake-prone Tampa offense. Expect a low-scoring affair with a defensive showcase from both teams.

Adrian Clayborn - One of the Buccaneers' many impact players on defense, any defensive end that matches up against Levi Brown will receive a tip of the cap in fantasy. With four sacks surrendered in three games and a right tackle nearly keeping pace with that number, expect a big day from Clayborn.

Lavonte David - David has been a monster on the field and in fantasy football. He'll look to add to his three sacks and one interception against a streaky Cardinals offense.

Karlos Dansby - Dansby's tenure as one of the NFL's tackle leaders (12 in week three) will continue against a run-heavy Buccaneers offense.

Patrick Peterson - You know Pete is going to have a good week in fantasy sooner or later. This match-up, against a rookie quarterback and a fleet of receivers that are struggling with drops and staying on the field, is as favorable a week as a cornerback can ask for. Unless Glennon outplays his draft status or the Buccaneers ask Doug Martin to run thirty-plus times (a possibility), Peterson is a good bet.

Sit 'em

Calais Campbell, Darnell Dockett - These two haven't produced much in fantasy on the whole. Don't expect this week to be any different as the Buccaneers are one of the NFL's best in pass protection.
