2013 Fantasy Football results, Week 1: A look at the Arizona Cardinals and the league's best

Scott Rovak-USA TODAY Sports

The Cardinals didn't see the results they had hoped to in the first week of the 2013 season.

However, in the world of Fantasy Football, it was a relatively successful day for several Cardinals players, who turned out decent outings, much to the happiness of their fantasy owners.

Cardinals Players:

1) Larry Fitzgerald - 20 Points: One of the biggest story-lines in fantasy football this week has been the one and only Fitz. Last season saw him only bring in a total of 4 TD's (You can attribute this mainly to who he was receiving the ball from), which was a major disappointment for everyone who had drafted him (And Fitz almost always goes in the first two rounds). However, after hauling in 8 receptions for 80 yards and 2 TD's, Fitz has proven that this year will be a huge bounce back for him. It definitely helps having a reliable QB.

And speaking of that QB,

2) Carson Palmer - 17 Points: Palmer had a decent outing on Sunday, and if you decided to start him, you can't hate the numbers he turned in. Going 26/40 for 327 yards with 2 TD's and 1 interception, it may not have been a Manning-esque performance, but it definitely wasn't a game-killer for fantasy owners who took the risk.

3) Rashard Mendenhall - 6 Points: Mendenhall proved to be a disappointment for fantasy owners. While Coach Arians' decision to run a committee of RB's left many fans of the team delighted, this proved disastrous for many owners who were counting on Mendenhall being the starter to rake in points for them.

League-wide Players:

1) Peyton Manning - 46 Points: Manning was arguably the biggest story of Week 1. He had a tremendous performance on Thursday Night Football against the defending champion Baltimore Ravens, going 27-42 for 462 yards and an incredible 7 TD's. Manning single-handedly won games for many of his fantasy owners.

2) Adrian Peterson - 28 Points: Peterson led all RB's, fantasy points wise, by rushing 18 times for 93 yards, while making it into the end-zone once. Peterson was widely regarded as one of the top fantasy picks of 2013, so this should come as no surprise to anyone.

3) Anquan Boldin - 26 Points: The former Cardinals receiver did major work for his owners on Sunday. Boldin brought in 13 receptions for 208 yards and a TD. This will surely silence all of his critics who predicted that he'd regress this season. He also helped QB Colin Kaepernick become the second highest scoring player in the fantasy world in Week 1.

(Note: Fantasy points are based off of standard ESPN.com scoring rules. These points should correspond to most fantasy sites.)
