Matt Shaughnessy returns to Arizona Cardinals for two seasons

The outside linebacker decides to come back despite the visit with New England.

The Arizona Cardinals managed to re-sign one of its own again, as outside linebacker Matt Shaughnessy has agreed to a two-year contract, per Arizona Republic beat writer Kent Somers.

Shaughnessy did hit the open market without re-signing and was even scheduled to visit the New England Patriots on Wednesday, but ultimately chose to return to the desert and the league's number one defense against the run.

The contract is also reasonable. According to Mike Garafolo, the deal is two years, $4.4 million, with another $2.2 million in incentives possible for him to earn.

Shaughnessy had three sacks and 36 tackles last season, playing outside linebacker for the first time in his career. He started 12 games in 2013, moving into a starting role after Sam Acho, Lorenzo Alexander and Alex Okafor all suffered season ending injuries.

The ouiside linebacker group includes Shaughnessy, Acho, Alexander, Okafor, Jonathan Abraham, Dan Giordano, Dontay Moch, Kenny Rowe, Adrian Tracy and Marcus Benard.
