Matt Miller of B/R latest 7-Round Mock Draft has a surprising free fall for a top QB prospect

And no, it's not who you think it is.

Blake Bortles of UCF falls all the way to #20 to the Cardinals.

Miller's take:

"Why the fall for Bortles? He's currently ranked No. 17 on my big board and has fallen considerably in the past months. While he does have undeniable upside and intrigue, Bortles doesn't come into the NFL game-ready. He may be the first pick in the draft on May 8, but in a mock draft based on where players should go, I can't value him inside the top five.

In Arizona, Bortles can sit and learn behind Carson Palmer while correcting the mechanical issues that keep him from being ready for the NFL. With Palmer and Bruce Arians mentoring him, Bortles would be in an ideal situation to succeed once called upon."

At 6'5", 230 lbs, Bortles certainly has the prototypical size of an NFL QB. Like Miller was saying, he can certainly benefit from learning under Palmer for a year or two. I didn't see a lot of his games in college, but I did watch his Fiesta Bowl performance and he performed very well. He even outdueled another top QB prospect (Bridgewater) earlier in the season.

I know most people wanna see a pass rusher,Tight End, or Safety in this spot, but the idea of having an heir apparent after Palmer retires gets me excited.

Oh, and here's the other five picks for the Red Birds.

Round 2: Jeremiah Attaochu, OLB, Georgia Tech

Round 3: Billy Turner, OT, NDSU

Round 4: Craig Loston, SS, LSU

Round 5: Avery Williamson, ILB, Kentucky

Round 6: Prince Shembo, OLB, Notre Dame

Analyze, interpret, and rant away Cardinal Nation!
