Isn't it Great to know that there are 78 Arizona Cardinals jerseys left until the start of the 2014 season?

We continue the countdown with the lineman portion of the series with jersey number 78.

It is most common for any offensive and defensive lineman to wear this number. There has been quite a plethora of players over the course of Cardinals history, stemming all the way back to the days in Chicago and St Louis.

This perhaps in large part due to the lack of success the Cardinals had, or have not had for that matter, on both the offense and defensive line. If there has been any productivity from each line over the years, it has most certainly been mediocre at best, as the lines (mainly offense) have been known to be the weakest of positions on the team.

So without further ado, let us get to it. Here is a look at which players have worn the number 78 jersey for the Cardinals franchise past and present.

Currently second year guard Earl Watford wears the 78 jersey for the Arizona Cardinals. Watford was drafted in the fourth round of 2013 NFL draft. He would become the understudy of Daryn Colledge at right guard for his rookie campaign. Now since the release of Colledge in the off-season, Watford is expected to be the right guard of the future for the Cardinals.

It was easy for Watford to choose to wear No. 78 because the last person to wear it for the Cardinals was Floyd Womack. The Cardinals were hoping to feed meat to the offensive line by adding the veteran Womack in 2011. After all, his nickname was "Pork chop." Unfortunately, for the Cardinals, the meat expired, and Womack would not see any more action after 2011.

Remember Alan Branch? The defensive lineman from the University of Michigan continues to stuff the run for the Buffalo Bills these days after having minimal success with the Cardinals (2007-2010). After his release by the Cardinals, Branch signed with the Seattle Seahawks before joining the Bills in 2013.

Fred Wakefield tried the number 78 on for size after switching from the defensive line to the offensive line in 2005. That did not last long though, as in 2006 Wakefield then changed to jersey No. 87 as he tried to play tight end for the team. Wakefield's experiment as a tight end would fail and in 2007 he switched back to 78, except it would be for the Oakland Raiders instead.

Other players to wear No. 78 were.
