Today makes 48 days remaining until the Arizona Cardinals take on the San Diego Chargers to open their regular season.
Since there are 48 days left, we will look at the history of jersey No. 48. There isn't a lot of it.
An undrafted rookie now wears it -- cornerback Todd Washington out of Southeastern Louisiana. He will not likely be wearing it by the end of training camp. There's always the possibility of the practice squad, but he is basically a camp body.
Before him?
Linebacker Dan Giordano had the number last year, but he spent the season on injured reserve.
In 2011, linebacker Brandon Sharpe had the number. He never played. He was in camp and was waived/injured.
A player that wore it for some time was long snapper Nathan Hodel. Offiicially listed as a tight end, he was the long snapper for the team from 2002-08. He was replaced by Mike Leach.
Back in 1998, tight end Jarius Hayes wore it. He appeared in all 16 games, but did not have any stats.
In 1991, cornerback Dexter Davis, who was drafted in the fourth round by the Cards that year. He wore 48 his rookie season and then changed to 21. In three years with the Cards, he started three of 33 games in which he appeared, had two interceptions and 33 tackles.
Back in 1988, it was worn by cornerback Reggie Phillips. After three season with the Bear, he joined the Cards and appeared in 16 games. His only stat? ONe punt return for four yards.
Cornerback Charles Wright wore 48 in 1987. He was drafted by the Cards in the 10th round and played three games that season. He would play for the Bucs and Cowboys in 1988 before his career was done.
From 1983-86, it belonged to cornerback Lionel Washington -- the best of the No. 48 group. He was a Cards fourth rounder and burst onto the scene in '83 with eight picks and 67 tackles. In three more seasons, he would pick off eight more passes. He would go on to have a fine 15-year career, mostly with the Raiders.
Safety Don Schwartz played five games for the Cards in 1981.
Steve Henry played eight in 1979.
Craig Baynham, a halfback, wore it for seven games in 1972. He had 17 carries for 43 yards and one catch for 10.
Cornerback Bob Atkins wore it in 1968-69.
It's not a group to remember, except for Washington. Are there any players on this list you recall?
