It is mock draft season. The SB Nation bloggers are participating in one that is gong on right now and I will select for the Arizona Cardinals in the first and second rounds. I have already made my selection for the first round (I'm not saying), but I wanted to see what you all would have done.
Here are five guys I looked at: running back Melvin Gordon, center Cam Erving, cornerback Jalen Collins, edge player Eli Harold and edge player Preston Smith.
Overall, I considered them all almost equal in terms of who is best.
Gordon has the numbers at running back. Many think he is a potentially special player. Would he be the perfect fit at running back to complement Andre Ellington?
Erving is considered a stud prospect at center, and the Cardinals are looking to replace Lyle Sendlein. As of right now, journeymen Ted Larsen and A.Q. Shipley will battle for the starting job.
Collins is a raw, but physically talented corner out of LSU. He is long. He is fast. He has a really high ceiling. The Cardinals like to draft from LSU (Patrick Peterson, Tyrann Mathieu, Kevin Minter). They like to draft captains -- Collins was a defensive captain.
Smith is a physical beast. He is versatile, being able to play OLB or DE, even in a 3-4. He was also a defensive captain. He had nine sacks for Mississippi State in 2014. Seth Cox ranks him the fourth best edge player in the draft. The three ranked higher were already drafted.
Harold is a very good athlete. He is Cox's sixth best edge player. he had seven sacks in 2014 for Virginia.
I made my selection, which will be revealed this coming week. Who would you take at No. 24 out of these prospects?
