As the offseason of lists and rankings continues for all of us who crave NFL coverage, we have another one. ESPN put together a list of 32 players who need a change of scenery. The reporters who cover each team for the network chose one player who would benefit the most.
For the Arizona Cardinals, Josh Weinfuss said it was linebacker Sean Weatherspoon.
Veteran inside linebacker Sean Weatherspoon lost the starting job when he missed nearly all of training camp with injuries. Yes, he has a rap as being injury-prone, but he was relatively healthy during the season -- partly because he rarely played. He needs an opportunity to win a starting job and show he can still play at the level he once reached with the Falcons. That won't happen with the Cardinals, who start Kevin Minter.
It is likely he will get that change. If he is looking for a place to start, it won't be Arizona, who like what Kevin Minter offers and and love what Deone Bucannon can do. Bucannon, playing out of position, had one of the most productive seasons in the league.
But if you look at the list of other players listed, some might catch you eye as guys who could fit here.
Colts TE Dwayne Allen is one of those guys. Arizona will probably be in the market for a veteran tight end. However, based on the blurb written about him, playing in a Bruce Arians offense might not be exactly what he is looking for.
Seattle linebacker Bruce Irvin would be fantastic here. He is versatile enough to play in space, but he wants to rush the passer. The Cardinals want a pass rusher. If the money is right, it might be a match made in heaven.
C.J. Spiller would be a great veteran option at running back to replace Chris Johnson, and he also has a skill set that allows the offense to not have to change much if he were to come in for David Johnson.
Mike Neal is one of those players for Green Bay. He was actually a Cardinals target in free agency before. It would make sense to like him now.
Bengals cornerback Leon Hall is interesting. He hasn't been great and has had injuries, but if the Cardinals really plan on having Justin Bethel as a starter, you want a guy who is able to be able to step in and compete or fill in for depth.
Is there anyone else of those players who you would like to see have their change of scenery in Arizona?
