After a long wait, the Arizona Cardinals finally got to make their pick on Day 2 of the 2016 NFL Draft. With the 92nd pick overall and the 30th of the third round, they take Texas A&M cornerback Brandon Williams.
Williams is a 5-11, 197-pound defensive back with blazing speed. He ran a 4.37-second 40 at the combine. He originally was a running back who moved to the secondary. He changed to cornerback just before his senior season and impressed. He was a team captain and the clear team leader.
More importantly, Williams was one of the best special teams players in the nation. Bruce Arians said Williams will have "an immediate impact on special teams."
Cornerback was one of the biggest needs the Cardinals had entering the day.
Arizona didn't have a second round pick, as they traded it as part of the deal to acquire pass rusher Chandler Jones from the New England Patriots. New England eventually traded that pick to the New Orleans Saints, who selected Ohio State safety Vonn Bell.
