Rumors

KC Chiefs Might Look at Todd Haley as New Head Coach

According to a couple of different sources, the Kansas City Chiefs would consider Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator if they decide not to retain head coach Herm Edwards. Leading the rumor mill is CBS's Chris Collingsworth who predicts that Haley's not only a candidate but that he should be the favorite. Collingsworth went on to say that the dust-up between Haley and Boldin (which we for the most part agreed wasn't a big deal) actually raised Haley's perceived value, because of the way he handled himself.

Herm Edwards is still the Cheifs coach but most expect him to be fired after the Super Bowl, if not sooner. Our fellow SBNation blog, Arrowhead Pride, that covers the Cheifs points out that Edwards is not at the Senior Bowl this week which only adds to the speculation that his departure is just a formality at this point. I'd imagine that if there are still some vacant spots after the Super Bowl that Haley, Pendergast and Grimm all get some interviews, but we've got bigger fish right now.

Arizona Cardinals Unfounded Rumor: Matt Leinart May Ask for Trade if Warner Resigns

Disclaimer: This is nothing more than a rumor and it's a rumor that most likely holds zero truth. With that being said, I could see it happening so I'll throw it out there.

According to Pro Football Weekly, some sources in the Cardinals organization are pretty sure that Matt Leinart would be tempted to ask for a trade if Kurt Warner is signed to a new contract this off season. That in itself isn't overly surprising, if you ask me. Leinart is a competitor and I'm sure he wouldn't welcome the idea of sitting on the bench for another season or two. The somewhat surpsing is the quote from a "team insider" that says:

"But there's no way they would trade him. The team's late-season swoon has opened some eyes, with some people thinking Kurt might be really starting to show his age."

I'm not sure if Kurt's late season should be considered a 'late season swoon' or just him struggling against quality opponents, but it's something to consider. I'm sure we'll beat the quarterback situation to death once we actually get to the off season so I'll leave it at that and go back to focusing on the Atlanta Falcons.

Did Edgerrin James Ask for his Release from the Arizona Cardinals?

Disclaimer: I created a completely new section (Rumors) for stories like this so please remember that I consider this nothing more than a rumor and I don't have much faith in the source's credibility.

With all that being said, Pro Football Talk is reporting that Edgerrin James has asked the Arizona Cardinals to release him. In light of him being benched and seldomly used (3 carries in the past three weeks) he's asked the team to cut him so that he look for better fit. The Cardinals, of course, declined considering that they're one injury to either Tim Hightower or J.J. Arrington from having to rely on Edge once again.

If this is true, it's really not all that surprising. We all know that Edge is very concerned with his 'legacy' and where his stats rank among the great running backs of all time. He's currently 13th on the all-time rushing list and at the beginning of the year, we were projecting him to jump into the top ten this season. He still considers himself not only a starter but one of the better backs in the league, even if that's an unrealistic view.

What remains to be seen is how his attitude, being a veteran presence in the locker room and mentor to Hightower, effects the rest of the team. Edge still has a role on this team and it doesn't take friction to create a fire in the locker room. So do you believe it and does it surprise you? Should the Cardinals release him?

Update: Kent Somers has mentioned rumor in his latest post and is trying to confirm. He did say though that he wouldn't be surprised if it were true.
