"This afternoon there was a severe thunderstorm with damaging winds and localized flooding that passed through the City of River Falls, causing power to be lost to the campus for more than an hour. This has caused our Information Technology resources to go offline.

The department of Information Technology Services has restored critical on-campus resources at this time. Other services will be restored over the course of the weekend. Continue to check this site for updated information as it is available."

No updates tonight, Chiefs fans. See you tomorrow morning for AP's second birthday.

Wesley already injured with Raiders | Red Zone

It didn't take long for newly signed safety Greg Wesley to find the training room at the Oakland Raiders camp.
Wesley, who signed with Oakland earlier in the week after the Chiefs finally released him, was nowhere to be seen on the practice field Friday morning because of what coach Lane Kiffin termed "back spasms."

Notes from Friday's AM Walkthrough

Shoes_medium

It was a rainy morning in River Falls, WI, and because of that, the Kansas City Chiefs worked out inside. Here are a few updates from UW-RF site and WPI. The AM practice pictures are here. The Chiefs should be taking the practice field around 3 PM for a more robust practice session.

  • "Kansas City’s starting five on the offensive line remains, left to right, Branden Albert, Brian Waters, Rudy Niswanger, Adrian Jones and Damion McIntosh. Albert, KC’s second first-round pick, showed no ill effects from the ankle he sprained earlier this offseason, and was light on his feet."

  • "The Chiefs rotated wide receivers with the first-team offense. Dwayne Bowe, Bobby Sippio, Devard Darling, Jeff Webb and Will Franklin all received reps with Brodie Croyle under center. Oliver Hoyte, Mike Cox and Chris Manderino split reps at fullback."

  • "Dwayne Bowe is full of energy. With Jared Allen gone, he’s definitely the heartbeat of this year’s Chiefs team. Today he played free safety with the walkthrough defense (normally comprised of offensive backups), and playfully acted like he might deliver a big hit to anyone who caught a ball in front of him, including his cousin Bobby Sippio. Bowe stayed after the walkthrough for an energetic game of catch with tight end Tony Gonzalez and linebacker Donnie Edwards."

  • "Head Coach Herm Edwards held a press conference at the close of practice. He discussed the importance of holding a walk-through versus a full-strength practice. "We have so many young guys; it’s good to give them a walk-through like this," Edwards said. He also said this morning’s walk-through would settle the players’ anxiety and serve as a teaching session. Walk-throughs also give the special teams’ players an opportunity to run more drills. The only injury Edwards said was affecting the team right now was the recovery rookie wide receiver Kevin Robinson. Edwards said that Robinson had his knee cleaned out about a month ago. "He’s on the mend," said Edwards, "but he should be ready to play in the preseason game at Chicago.'"

  • "Tamba Hali and Ron Edwards were two of the defensive linemen who saw quality time during the mock-snap drills. Rookie DaJuan Morgan was also seeing some first-string time in the safety position. Throughout the practice, the defense seemed more leisure than the offense, primarily focusing on one drill, using only two strings of players."

Oh man, it felt good to post this. Training camp has officially started! More updates later tonight and don't forget about AP's birthday tomorrow! We're turning two!

Hall of Fame 49ers quarterback Joe Montana said on Friday’s Dan Patrick Show that Montana nearly finished his career not as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, but as the quarterback of the then-Phoenix Cardinals.

"It was between [Kansas City] and Phoenix," Montana said, suggesting that concerns about the offensive line there kept him from making the move.

For what it’s worth, here are the thoughts of Yahoo’s Mike Silver on the top owners in the National Football League. Take his comments about Carl Peterson with a grain of salt. Silver has had it in for Peterson ever since the Chiefs GM pulled him out of a room at Arrowhead Stadium where the writer was trying to conduct an interview with Priest Holmes while the running back was getting a massage. Seriously. Silver was pissed.

"We start changing that now, right here, in training camp. It’s not something you suddenly pull out in the fourth quarter of a game in November. It means taking personal responsibility right now, with every practice and every meeting. It’s not about physical talent in this league, it’s about what’s up here (he pointed to his head.) It’s about knowing the situation, knowing that it’s time to make a play to win the game and knowing how to make that play happen.

"You can’t just show up. You have to do more. We will do more, because I can tell you this, I’m not putting up with a season like last year again. I’m all out of ‘tried hard’ speeches. I don’t want to do any more of those."

Actual Football Players Will be Doing Actual Football Things Today

Arrivaltrio_medium

You know you have a young team when you don't recognize anyone in the training camp pictures.

The Kansas City Chiefs 2008 training camp kicks off in about fifteen minutes here, with the Chiefs starting a 10 AM walkthrough and then conducting a full practice at 3:30. It's raining in River Falls and it's possible the Chiefs may move indoors but I'm not sure yet.

For those unfamiliar with training camp, the team will have a morning and afternoon practice, with updates coming from the River Falls site and WPI mid-day and evening. I'll will be posting those updates here, probably in a combination of FanShots and actual posts.

Between the River Falls site and WPI, we should be able to get a good idea of how training camp is progressing.

Get excited! Football is here!
