11-16-10: Arizona Cardinals Bird Droppings

Normally, I would have a comment related to the Cardinals in here. But what Vick did last night was just amazing, it was like what you could do with the guy in Madden 04.

Also, looking at some of the links about the McNabb deal, there is still a chance he could come here....

A-Dub at his most blunt
Adrian Wilson passed on talking to the media after the game, so he did so today. Today’s topic, among other things? His play. So, Adrian, how would you assess how you’ve played this season? "Like s***."

Arizona Cardinals' Adrian Wilson critical of his own performance
Adrian Wilson chose not to speak to reporters in the Cardinals' locker room after Sunday's 36-18 loss to the Seahawks. A day later, though, the strong safety had plenty to say. And when it came to assessing his performance, it wasn't pretty.

KTAR.com - Rhodes disagrees with coach and players on team's effort level
Cardinals' coach Ken Whisenhunt spent the majority of Monday defending the effort level of his team's embarrassing 36-18 defeat to the Seattle Seahawks. Safety Kerry Rhodes disagrees with his coach's assessment of the team.

KTAR.com - Adrian Wilson's brutally honest about himself and team
Adrian Wilson has a ‘case of the Mondays'. At least that's the way it seemed when he talked to the media the day after the Arizona Cardinals' 36-18 loss to the NFC West leading Seattle Seahawks. The Cards' safety sounded more than a little depressed about his team's current situation and his own play.

Where NFC West teams rank: Week 10 - NFC West Blog - ESPN
A few highlights regarding where NFC West teams rank in various statistical categories through Week 10:

ProFootballWeekly.com - Cardinals going straight downhill in a hurry
After their fourth consecutive loss — a new phenomenon in the Ken Whisenhunt regime — the Cardinals officially now qualify as an equal-opportunity disappointment. While the team’s offensive shortcomings have consistently created short fuses in Cardinals Nation this season, with neither Derek Anderson nor Max Hall being able to light a fire in a unit that has declined dramatically with Kurt Warner no longer under center, the team’s defense had at least occasionally risen to the occasion.

Larry Fitzgerald Goes From Stud To Dud: Has Fitz Really Fallen From Glory? | Bleacher Report
With someone as prodigiously talented as Larry Fitzgerald, it shouldn't matter who is throwing him the ball. If the commentators and statistician were to be believed, all a QB needed to do was get it somewhere near him, and he'll find a way to catch it. Alas, if only that was the case.

About those long gains through the air - NFC West Blog - ESPN
For all the Arizona Cardinals' troubles recently, the team leads the NFL in 30-plus pass plays for Weeks 7-10. Getting receiver Steve Breaston back from injury has helped. Breaston ranks tied for fourth in the league with six such plays -- same as the San Francisco 49ers' Vernon Davis -- despite missing Weeks 4-7. He has five such plays in the Cardinals' last three games.

Phoenix Suns find answer late, top Denver Nuggets
For teams both coming off wins against the Los Angeles Lakers, there was a lot of ugliness in how the Suns and Denver Nuggets shot for most of Monday night's game at US Airways Center. It was not looking pretty for the Suns, playing for a second consecutive night, when the Nuggets, playing on three days' rest, led by 15 before halftime. And the Suns followed their game with 22 3-pointers Sunday night by making two of their first 18 3-point tries Monday. But Suns coach Alvin Gentry gave his team an instant makeover, finding yet another combination to extend their most-attractive stretch of the season with a 100-94 victory.

Donovan McNabb gets contract extension with Washington Redskins
Washington quarterback Donovan McNabb has gone from getting benched to getting a contract extension from the Redskins, his agent says. Fletcher Smith said Monday that the 33-year-old McNabb has agreed to a five-year, $78 million contract extension with the Redskins, with $40 million of the deal guaranteed.

Source: Donovan McNabb due just $3.75M if cut after '10 - ESPN
One of the contract's most significant points is a payment due this offseason, when the Redskins must decide whether or not to pay McNabb a $10 million option bonus. If they do, it would trigger the rest of the contract and make Washington liable for McNabb's $2.5 million base salary in 2011. So in essence, the Redskins paid McNabb $3.75 million in 2010 for the right to pay him $12.5 million in 2011 and control his rights. If the Redskins cut him after this season or trade him, they are only on the hook for the $3.75 million. Boiled down, the deal's real guarantee is $3.5 million, though if McNabb suffered a catastrophic injury this season and never played again, he would receive $25 more million.

Madden 11 Week 10 Ratings Change Suggestions. Should Vick be 99? | pastapadre.com
After a huge week 10 the question now arises as to whether Michael Vick actually deserves to be a 99 overall in Madden 11 and the argument can certainly be made that he should be. It would be an unprecedented leap to go from starting the year at a 73 and getting incremental upgrades through roster updates only to reach the pinnacle by the end of week 10.

McNabb’s real guarantee? $3.5 million | ProFootballTalk
On Monday, ESPN’s Michael Smith reported that McNabb and the Redskins "have agreed to a five year extension, worth 78 million, 40 guaranteed." No one believed that McNabb was getting $40 million guaranteed. But since Smith and ESPN wanted to be first to report the news of the extension, they passed along the phony contract numbers on a don’t ask/don’t tell basis. Now, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that McNabb’s deal includes only $3.5 million in guaranteed money.
