NFL Week 7 is here. There are 13 games to pick, seven of which are on the early schedule. The early games do not provide a ton of intrigue, but there are new quarterbacks to be seen. The games that headline the morning are he Atlanta Falcons at the Detroit Lions and the San Diego Chargers at the New York Jets.
As for the picks against the spread, I went 6-7, putting me at 37-32 on the season (you will note I am better at the spread than straight picks as my ROTB Pick'em selections have me at below .500). Here are my picks after the jump.
Seattle Seahawks at Cleveland Browns (-3): The Seahawks have uncertainty at quarterback as it appears the Charlie Whitehurst will be starting. The did pick up a road victory against the Giants. Nonetheless, two consecutive road wins isn't happening for the 'Hawks. Pick: Browns -3.
Atlanta Falcons at Detroit Lions (-3.5): Atlanta has not been impressive on the road, and the Lions are coming off a stinging first loss of the season -- at home -- to the San Francisco 49ers. However, Detroit has issues stopping the run (129.5 YPG allowed) and the Falcons have a pretty good runner in Michael Turner. But Atlanta is number 27 against the pass, while Matthew Stafford likes to get the ball down the field. Pick: Lions -3.5
Houston Texans at Tennessee Titans (-3): Matt Hasselbeck is having a superb season. Andre Johnson has still not practiced with his hamstring injury. Matt Schaub is dinged up. Both teams are evenly matched, but you have to give the home team the advantage here. Pick: Titans -3.
Denver Broncos at Miami Dolphin (-2): The Tim Tebow has begun for the Broncos. It is in Florida. They are honoring Tebow and his college team. Miami looks terrible -- even worse than the Broncos. Do you believe in the magic of Tebow? I do enough for a win over the Fish. Pick: Broncos +2.
San Diego Chargers (-2) at New York Jets: New York go the monkey off their back against the poor Dolphins. They are in a position to get back into the thick of things after a brutal road schedule to start the season. San Diego is 4-1 with some key players hurt. Look for the Jets to build on the victory from Monday Night and to run the ball more against a Chargers group that is very effective defending the pass. Pick: Jets +2.
Chicago Bears (-1) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: RB LeGarrette Blount is likely out for the Bucs. Chicago is coming off a big performance, perhaps ending the starting career of Donovan McNabb. Stopping Matt Forte is no easy thing...and Tampa isn't going to do it well. Both teams have to travel a long, long way as they are in England. Pick: Bears -1.
Coming up...picks for the rest of the Week 7 docket.
