It is always so much more fun to do one of these after a win, and this time we are doing it after a great win over the Eagles in Philadelphia. Several people stepped up, and this was a great team win. Now lets look at who I decided to nominate for CotW.
In last weeks poll, Patrick Peterson won with 70% of the 168 votes that were cast.
John Skelton - 21 of 40, 315 yards, 3 TDs, 2 Int
Quarterback controversy? I have said all along that I want Kolb to start if he is healthy because he needs experience in this system and we need to see what the Cardinals have in him. But I was also happy to see Skelton step in and play well enough to get the win. If Kolb starts, I'll root for him. And if Skelton does get to keep running with the job, I'll root for him as well.
Even though he was inconsistent with his accuracy at times and he had two interceptions on what were just horrible throws he came through when it mattered the most and lead scoring drives. The Cardinals would have scored more points if Feely didn't miss two field goals as well. Skelton does have things that he needs to work on, but he showed some good things again this week as well.
Larry Fitzgerald - 7 catches on 13 targets, 146 yards, 2 TDs
Larry was just being Larry out there on Sunday. He was getting plenty of chances to catch the ball, and when it flew into his vicinity his magic hands came down with it. He even made two classic Larry plays on one of the scoring drives where he caught a long pass that was actually tipped and almost intercepted by the defender, and then he did the same thing on what wound up being a touchdown and his franchise record 70th career Touchdown.
Don't forget his last catch where he made an incredible diving grab where he was ruled to be down at the one yard line, and it led to the game winning touchdown a couple of plays later for the Cardinals. This was just classic 2008 Larry out there making highlight reel catches and showing us why he is paid the big money.
The Defense - 2 Ints, 2 sacks, 10 points and 128 passing yards allowed
I know, I'm cheating on this one. But it was just too tough to single out anyone on the Defense for this one. As a whole, the guys on Defense played a great game in shutting down one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL. It gets even sweeter for them when most people consider the Cardinals to have one of the worst if not the worst pass defense in the NFL, and everyone expected the Eagles to carve up the Big Red D.
So many guys were out there making plays, good pressure was applied on Michael Vick, Calais Campbell made an incredible play to pick off Vick, two other Interceptions by Adrian Wilson and Richard Marshall were overturned by iffy calls, Daryl Washington was all over the field again making plays, and coverage wise everyone held up well for most of the game.
Last but not least, gotta give credit to Ray Horton for coming up with a great gameplan that his players were able to execute beautifully.
