If it wasn't enough for Patrick Peterson to win the game on Sunday for the Arizona Cardinals, now he gets more recognition. Because of his 99-yard punt return touchdown in overtime that ended the game and gave the Cardinals a 19-13 win over the St. Louis Rams, he was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
It was his first such award. It probably will not be his last. It wasn't even his last honor of the week.
In addition to the Player of the Week award, fans can vote on a pair of awards.
He is a nominee for the Pepsi "NFL Rookie of the Week." Since it is a fan vote, we are putting this on you all, the Cardinals fans, to get this done. Go to the NFL Rookie page and vote him as often as you can. Do it! If he wins, it will be announced on Friday on NFL Network.
He is going up against quarterback Andy Dalton of the Cincinnati Bengals, running back Roy Helu of the Washington Redskins, wide receiver Julio Jones of the Atlanta Falcons, and running back DeMarco Murray of the Dallas Cowboys.
The other award is for the GMC "Never Say Never Moment of the Week." He is up against a pair of quarterbacks who had late-game heroics -- Eli Manning and Joe Flacco.
We are Cardinals fans. We ought to do our part. He is popular enough to win the rookie award, but when he is up against Eli and the New York market, that will be a taller task, especially since it happened against the Patriots.
So go to the GMC award page and vote now for the last one. Go to both pages and show the world that the Birdgang can make a difference.
