2011 ROTB NFL Mock Draft: Broncos On The Clock, Panthers Select...

Today is the inauguration of the 2011 ROTB Community/Writer NFL Mock Draft. We are not Mel Kiper, neither Mike Mayock, neither Todd McShay. We are, though, fans of football and likely can project the actual NFL Draft as well as any so-called draft expert. Today, AlaskanCard and Skii make their selections as GM of the Carolina Panthers for he number one pick of the draft.

Whom will each draft? See after the jump.

In the meantime, the Denver Broncos are now on the clock. Azcardswinez and JoeCB1991, you are up. Email me your picks and explanations by 11PM AZ time tonight. Note that the community member cannot draft a player previously drafted by the community and the same for the writers, but you cannot draft a player drafted by a previous writer.

Leave comments about what you think of the picks and why. Whom would you have selected? Good picks or bad picks?

AlaskanCard:

Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama

The Panthers already have their hands full with two project QBs in Moore and Clausen. They need another QB to gum that up like the Cardinals need "Dumb Ass" back under center. The Panthers could take Gabbert number one, but in my opinion, he's not worth it. The Panthers defense surrendered almost 2000 yards rushing last year, putting them 22nd in the league and in major need of some DL help. Dareus can fit any scheme which is good for the Panthers and Rivera who are looking to implement a 4-3/3-4 defensive scheme. He is fast for his size and is an elite defensive talent that is more of a sure thing than any QB in this draft. Dareus has the ability to instantly improve the Panthers defense and that's something Carolina just cannot pass on.

Skii:

Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn

The Panthers need many positions, like QB, but in the end, they'll go DT. Jimmy Clausen wasn't outstanding, but he didn't have much help from his defense. The Panthers defense let up 123 rushing yards per game, and will look to improve their D-line. Nick Fairley has the physical tools to be a star, and is definitely first overall pick worthy. Plus, the DT position is very deep this year, and the Panthers don't have a second-round pick. They may not have many DT options to go to in the third round.
