Two day, two picks in the books. Two teams have made selections that you agree with, for the most part. Yesterday, the community GM selected Da'Quan Bowers and the writer GM drafted Patrick Peterson for the Denver Broncos. Solid choices for both. This leaves both Blaine Gabbert and Cam Newton on the board. How far will they fall? We shall soon see.
Today, J Steezy and RedBirdRevival pick for the Bills. Their selections are after the jump.
In the meantime, the Bengals are now on the clock. Badblood54 and RedBirdRevival, you are up. Email me your picks and explanations by 11PM AZ time tonight. Note that the community member cannot draft a player previously drafted by the community and the same for the writers, but you cannot draft a player drafted by a previous writer.
Leave comments about what you think of the picks and why. Whom would you have selected? Good picks or bad picks?
J Steezy
Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU
The Bills most pressing need is on the O-line, but there are no prospects worth this high a pick. I decided to go with the best defensive player in the draft. Other options were Von Miller or Nick Fairley as the Bills will need a guy who can pressure the QB in their 3-4 defense. However, Peterson is too good a talent to pass up and the Bills can grab a pass rusher later in the draft. He will give the Bills a shut down corner for years to come, worst case he moves to safety and becomes a game changer there. This may not represent their most pressing needs but they need help all over and taking the best player and someone who can be make an impact right away on D and special teams makes sense with with selection.
RedBirdRevival
Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri
Buffalo has only ever taken two quarterbacks in the first round since the 1967 merger. Jim Kelly, an eventual Hall of Famer, and the dud that was J.P. Losman. Kelly was drafted in 1983 at 14th overall and is considered one of the best, if not the best, quarterback in the Bills team history. Losman was drafted in 2004 and the Bills had to trade up to grab him. After throwing more interceptions than touchdowns, the Bills finally kicked him out of the door in 2007. If you haven't guessed yet, I am willing to take a 50-50 shot at this point.
The Bills are sinking (if not already sunk) and they need a new QB under center, so with the third pick, I am taking Blaine Gabbert. Gabbert has shown to be a much safer pick than Newton and bringing in another player with off field issues will never help. His footwork looks great, he has good arm strength and throws with excellent accuracy. Keeping Ryan Fitzpatrick around to teach him some things can't hurt, but Blaine Gabbert can become the new building block. Along with C.J. Spiller and Steve Johnson, this team now has a young core that can start moving upwards.
