The ROTB draft will now be nine picks in. The Dallas Cowboys are up. After entering the season as a prohibitive favorite to make the Super Bowl, the Dallas Cowboys lost quarterback Tony Romo to a broken collarbone and here the team stands with a top ten draft pick. Jerry Jones is not going to be happy if it happens again.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Cowboys don't really need a ton of help. They were able to put points up on the board. Some offensive line help is a need, but the defensive side of the ball is where there are the most holes.
Thomaldo brings you the community pick and I give you the writer pick.
For tomorrow, the Washington Redskins will make their selection. RedBirdRevival will represent the writers and Az78true will be the community GM. Email me your picks and explanations by 11PM AZ time tonight. Note that the community member cannot draft a player previously drafted by the community and the same for the writers, but you cannot draft a player drafted by a previous writer.
Remember, the fun in this is the debate. I know it is the Cowboys, but let's get into this. Good picks? Bad picks? What do you see the team doing with the picks? Fire away with the comments.
Thomaldo:
Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn
The mood in the Cowboys' war room is getting high. Tennessee could have ruined quite a bit, but their pick was perfect. Jerry Jones look at a possible shutdown cornerback falling in his lap, and he also has the opportunity to take the top offensive lineman in the draft (this could happen - remember, a year ago Jerry Jones had never taken a WR in the first round or fired a head coach during the season either)
However, as our dear writer GM's have shown, there is one guy who is really getting anxious in the green room. (If the NFLPA allow him to, that is) Nick Fairley - regarded by some as the best defensive lineman in a very talented draft - is the pick. He had a Suh-like season with Auburn and is versatile enough to play as a DE in the regular 3-4 and stay on the field, when the Cowboys use a four-man front on passing downs. Pair him with Jay Ratliff and you have a mismatch against just about any interior O-line in the league. Best player available on a position of need. Bingo!
Me:
Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina
The Cowboys already have one of the premier pass rushers in the game in DeMarcus Ware. Quinn has been compared to him, albeit not quite the complete player. One Dallas need is another outside linebacker. Quinn fits the bill and would give the Cowboys two incredibly talented players rushing the edge.
Quinn's ineligibility in 2010 because of improper benefits will not scare away the Cowboys. Jones likes a little edge to his players. We all remember Michael Irvin and his off the field issues. Now they have Dez Bryant with similar issues in college as Quinn. There is no worrying about character. The kid will be getting paid. Quinn could have gone as high as number one overall. The Cowboys will gladly make this selection
To see who the SB Nation Arizona team projected for the Cowboys, head on over to my collaborated mock draft and see the gem the Cowboys snag.
