2011 ROTB Mock Draft: Writers Pick Cam Newton To Vikings

The 12th pick of the 2011 NFL Draft belongs to the Minnesota Vikings. With no Brett Favre and no stadium, they are a team in a pretty dire situation. Which way will they go? Their needs include anywhere on the defensive line, quarterback, receiver, offensive line and at safety.

J Steezy and Jessesb are today's Gms. Tomorrow, kj197728 and I pick for the Detroit Lions. Email me your picks and explanations by 11PM AZ time tonight. You know the rules -- no trades, no drafting guys that have been drafted.

Remember that what makes this even better is healthy debate. Put in your two cents.

J Steezy:

J.J. Watts, DE, Wisconsin

As we all know the Vikings are in need of a QB a certain someone has hinted once or twice he is not coming back next year. They may reach for Jake Locker here, but it appears there will be some quality QB prospects in the second round they can target. The Vikings D-line is getting old and Jared Allen could use some help. Watt has a motor that doesn't quit and a good array of moves to get the the quarterback. He should translate to a good power end in the vikings 4-3 defense who could help stop the run if and when the Williams call it quits.

Jessesb:

Cam Newton, QB, Auburn

The Vikings are built to win now. Their line and defense are beginning to age and the magic and sheer power of Adrian Peterson isn't going to last forever. Thankfully for Minnesota, their team is just good enough in all aspects to be able to draft a rookie and live and die with him. The FO at Minn goes with Newton because of his pure athleticism and big play ability. With AP in the running game, speedy WR Percy Harvin and power WR Sidney Rice, they believe Newton will have all the tools necessary to win now. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see Minny make a move for a FA QB to fall back upon.
