Next up in the ROTB NFL mock draft are the New Orleans Saints, who had the distinction of losing in the playoffs to a sub-.500 team. Offensively, they are solid, considering they have Drew Brees (Drew Breeeesss!) at the helm. However, their running game was decimated because of injuries.
Defensively, they could use some help in the front seven. After the jump, you can see who was selected by Psknapp as community GM and Jessesb as writer GM.
As always, fire up a good debate. Next up are the Seattle Seahawks. CardinalsFB and JoeCB1991 need to Email me your picks and explanations by 11PM AZ time tonight.
Psknapp:
Corey Liuget, DT, Illinois
While the problems with the Saints' rushing game were the most obvious at the end of the season (and Ingram still available), New Orleans fans know a lot of that was due to an extraordinary amount of injuries starting in the pre-season. With their rushing corps healthy, one of the biggest worries for the Saints next season is getting consistent pressure on the quarterback and the sacks that should go with it. So, with a pick that is equal parts best player available and filling a need, the Saints first round pick is Corey Liuget, DT out of Illinois. Liuget is a versatile, quick, technically sound player with a good motor whose ability will allow him to make a difference right away. In 7 games last season, the Saints had one or fewer sacks, and Liuget should improve a defense whose stat leader had all of 6 sacks in 2010.
Jessesb:
Cameron Jordan, DE, California
Cameron Jordan is a great fit for the NO. They are in need of a 4-3DE and Cameron Jordan is the perfect fit. While he struggles in the pass rush, he is excellent in defending against the run and has good versatility, being able to play a 4-3 DT in passing situations. Jordans greatest feature is his non-stop motor, something that NO will greatly appreciate. Jordan also have good durability playing in 49 of 50 games in his four years in college. Jordan comes from a football family with his father being a 6 time probowl TE with the Vikings in 13 seasons. He is about as sound a pick as NO could ask for in the first round.
