2011 NFL Draft Results: Cardinals Draft Best Player Available Patrick Peterson

They did it. The Cardinals did not trade down. They took LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson withe the fifth pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. This ends all of the speculation for months that was the possibility that they take a quarterback. Now expect the Cardinals to trade or go the veteran route to fill the need at quarterback.

Peterson intercepted four passes in 2010, going up against players in the the college football power conference, the SEC. He is projected to start opposite Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie at some point during this next season and allow the Cardinals' defensive backfield officially becomes an area of strength.

He also returned kicks, returning two for touchdowns.

He was rated at the top of many draft boards, so having him fall to the Cardinals is potentially the steal of the draft. He has size and speed.

What is now left to see is what the Cardinals do tomorrow night with their second round selection.
