2011 ROTB Mock Draft: Miami Dolphins May Reach For QB At No. 15

In today's selections for the Miami Dolphins, we have our first shocker of the draft, thanks to the community GM, Alaskancard. He makes a QB pick that most would not expect, considering the majority of the projections out there for Miami. As for the writer GM (me), I went with the projections. The need is there and this player is the best at the position and is worth the pick.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are now on the clock and the GMs for them are blank_38 and Jessesb. Email me your picks and explanations by 11PM AZ time tonight. You know the rules -- no trades, no drafting guys that have been drafted.

Remember that what makes this even better is healthy debate. Put in your two cents.

Alaskancard:

Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas

I was thinking about being boring and taking the pick that everyone expects (Mark Ingram), but then I thought I would have some fun and pick Mallet to see what people say. Mallet is big and has an arm to match. He played in a pro-style offense which can only help his transition into the NFL. He does have the off field red flags, but without those I feel like he would easily overtake Gabbert as the number one QB off the board. Besides, Mob Boss Sparano can handle whatever issues he's got.

He draws many comparisons to Joe Flacco, which is the kinda QB the Dolphins need, someone who can make throws, but won't get in the way of the running game, which will be taken care of later in the draft. I think Henne still has something to show and drafting Mallet will either light a fire or snuff it out. Either way, the Dolphins will get a serviceable QB out of it to lead them back to the playoffs. Mallet to Marshall sounds like a dangerous combo to me...

Jess Root:

Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama

Yes, I went with the boring pick, but it is warranted here. The team has not yet given up on Chad Henne and reaching for a QB here is a bit risky. Plus, there is the possibility that neither Ronnie Brown nor Ricky Williams will be Dolphins in 2011. Ingram is a big, strong back capable of being an every down guy. The one knock is his speed, a he posted only a 4.63 for his 40 time. But we all saw what he was able to do when he put the Crimson Tide on his shoulders and came up big in big games en route to a national championship. Running back is a big need and Ingram is the best guy at the position.
