2011 Draft Pick Sam Acho Is Not Your Regular Football Player

Every once in a while, the Cardinals will draft a guy that has more on the mind than football. Sometimes, this is a good thing. On the team, we already have Steve Breaston who writes poetry and tries to put together books.

The newly drafted linebacker out of Texas, Sam Acho, is such a player. I have not spoken with him, but based on a couple things I know he will be well received by the general public. I like what I have heard so far.

Acho was the epitome of a student-athlete. He was recognized last season for being college football's top scholar athlete award, winning the William V. Campbell Trophy (2010).

There are two other things that touch my heart. Acho speaks Spanish, having been born and raised in El Paso. As a Spanish teacher myself, I like that. Also, he seems to be well read. He was found tweeting the words to a famous poem called, "Canción de jinete," written by Federico Garcia Lorca.

He has just seemed to be a guy who has his head on straight. I can't think of any other time that an NFL player was reading literature from Spain.

Do any of you have any first impressions of the Cardinals' draft picks?
