Probably the biggest moves that were announced in media reports on Tuesday were not announced free agent agreements. They were the announcements that were made telling us what players will be released on Thursday. The Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys made some noise with their expected cuts.
Dallas is going to release running back Marion Barber, receiver Roy Williams and offensive lineman Leonard Davis.
Arizona fans will be familiar with Davis, who was a first-round pick by the Cardinals many years ago. He flopped as a left tackle, but signed as a free agent with the Dallas Cowboys after the 2006 season. He signed a seven-year deal to play guard.
As a guard, he went to the Pro Bowl in 2007, 2008 and 2009, and he was an All-Pro in 2007. Now he is going to be a free agent three seasons before his deal is done.
The Cardinals have offensive line needs on the interior. Only one guard (Rex Hadnot) is under contract.
Davis has shown that he is more than a serviceable player as a guard. However, he is aging a bit and will be 33 in September and did not have a great 2010.
Would you, as a fan, welcome him back to have him play guard, despite his history with the team?
