With the NFL lockout still in effect today the day we celebrate our country's independence, it would seem appropriate that we try and do something active like the founding fathers did when they were tired of their situation with British rule. We, like they, are being oppressed and have been robbed of our football freedoms. All we are able to do it discuss endlessly either the lockout or Kevin Kolb and all the possible trade scenarios that could take place.
We are sick of it and want it to end.
So, in honor of history and patriotism, it is time we declare ourselves free of the lockout and free of player/owner greed.
How do we do that?
This is not a boycott of the league. In fact, it has no real power other than symbolically.
It is simply declaring our freedom from their greed. We want the game back, but we don't need it. There will be college football, there will be our families and other things we can spend money on. We are not slaves to the game. The game is a slave to us.
When they are ready to get a game back on the field, great. But until then we want them back but will be free to pursue other interests and spend our money in other ways if they lose games.
That's just the way it will be. We (the fans) will lead our lives much in the same way (obviously there are exceptions as there are many whose livelihoods depend on the league), but the players and owners will suffer without us.
For me, it will make maintaining content on the page here more difficult, but we've thus far been able to handle it.
So are you with me? I know that I will certainly be able to fill my Sundays with other things if there are no games. I just don't want to, but I will if I have to.
