Deuce Lutui is back with the Arizona Cardinals after signing a one-year deal, pending his passing a physical. It is odd how it happened, as he had a two-year contract with the Cincinnati Bengals, but was released because he failed his physical there. He was overweight, showing up at 381 lbs.
Arizona was always interested in bringing him back, but his weight was an issue. If you recall, he reported to camp last season at 396 lbs. At any rate, his return will improve the offensive line play, whether he starts or not.
The left tackle is set with Levi Brown, as is the right tackle spot with Brandon Keith. Lyle Sendlein is set at center and recently signed Daryn Colledge appears to be the guy at left guard.
There are now four guys battle to play right guard -- Deuce, Rex Hadnot, recently signed Floyd Womack and Jeremy Bridges (who in a contract year really wants to play...anywhere).
My guess would be that Bridges will be moved to back up at tackle (as he can play both sides).
Whoever wins the right guard starting job, the others will move into a backup role, obviously. Both Hadnot and Womack can play multiple positions. Deuce is the only one who has only played right guard of the group.
The current scenario is perfect for Ken Whisenhunt, who loves competition. It should raise the play of all the players and in the end make the line better.
With a new QB under center who is supposed to lead the team for several years, it is a good situation to find yourself in.
