Injuries: John Skelton Will Not Play Saturday Vs. The Chargers

After spraining his ankle during the preseason game against the Green Bay Packers, John Skelton has been taking the week off from practice to rehab his wounds. The thought from coach Ken Whisenhunt is that the injury was not severe and that he should be able to participate in the next game.

Well, it looks as if that idea has been shot down. Skelton announced himself today (via Twitter) that he will not be playing as the second string quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals when they go up against the San Diego Chargers tomorrow night.

So bummed I'm not gonna be able to go Saturday. I need to get healthy for thursday and the Broncos.less than a minute ago via Twitter for iPhone Favorite Retweet Reply

With Skelton now officially ruled out for tomorrow's match, look for both Kevin Kolb and Richard Bartel to take plenty of snaps from behind center. Bartel, as he has done in practice all week, will slide into the #2 QB spot and newcomer Brodie Croyle will be the third quarterback on the depth chart.

Max Hall was waived after dislocating his shoulder earlier this week, so he also will not be a participant in the game.

Kevin Kolb noted in practice that he would like to play at least the first half against the Chargers and hopefully lead the team on their first drive coming out of halftime as well. Coach Ken Whisenhunt has not confirmed that this is the plan, but it seems that Kolb will certainly be getting more time on the field than he has in the previous two preseason games.

While we can expect Skelton to be ready when the Denver Broncos come for a visit, nothing is set in stone.
