2012 NFL Offseason: Rams To Interview Steve Keim For Vacant GM Position

The St. Louis Rams are in the middle of their search for a new head coach and general manager. The Arizona Cardinals have found themselves in the middle of that search. Arizona has given the Rams permission to interview Steve Keim, who is currently Director of Player Personnel. He has been with the Cardinals for going on 13 years.

The information comes via Mike Jurecki, through his Twitter account.

SB Nation Arizona had this to say about Keim:

Keim is widely regarded as one of the best in the business and it is not surprising to see the Rams show interest. Formerly the Cardinals scout in the east, Keim was promoted to the title of Director, College Scouting in June, 2006 and was promoted again to his current title of Director, Player Personnel in May, 2008. In his current role, Keim coordinates the activities of both the college and pro scouting departments.

Having Keim considered as a candidate should be seen as a positive for the team and a sign of how things have turned around. This year in particular looks like the team did a very good job in their drafting.

While it is not considered serious yet, it is an honor to have someone within the organization considered, although it would not be great to lose him.

Why would he leave? For the promotion. If he wants to be a GM (which I imagine he does), he'll have to leave the organization or wait a long time. It does't look like Rod Graves is going anywhere for the time being.

We'll keep you posted on any offseason rumors. ROTB doesn't take the offseason off.
