The Cardinals didn't put up much of a fight, either.
In Week 5 of the 2012 NFL season, the Arizona Cardinals' win streak was snapped as they fell to the division-rival Rams, in St. Louis.
It was a bad night for the offense. And that's putting it in kind terms. QB Kevin Kolb went 28 for 50 for 289 yards, 0 TD's, and 0 INT's. Larry Fitzgerald led all receivers for the Cardinals with 8 receptions for 92 yards. But what was an even bigger story (And not in a good way) for the Cardinals was the atrocious play of the Offensive Line. Kolb was sacked a total of 9 times, totaling in a loss of 52 yards. Linemen Bobby Massie and D'Anthony Batiste were abused all night. This affected the run-game as well, as RB Ryan Williams was only able to garner 33 yards off 14 rushes. Overall, it was a game that the Cardinals offense should probably forget really fast.
The Cardinals defense has been on the receiving end of countless praises by the national media. However, they too failed to make a huge impact. Although Rams QB Sam Bradford only went 7 for 21 with 141 yards, he still managed to throw two TD's (The Rams first offensive TD's in three games). However, he was also picked off by CB Patrick Peterson, which proved to be the highlight of the game. Rams RB Steven Jackson had 18 rushes for 76 yards, but more importantly, averaged 4.2 yards a carry.
On the Special Teams side, it wasn't much better for the Cardinals. Rams P Johnny Hekker averaged 56.9 yards per punt, which proved to be a huge factor in the Cardinals lack of points. K Jay Feely even missed a FG, going 1 for 2 for the day. This snapped his streak of 19 straight FG's made, spanning to last season.
The time of possession for the Cardinals was 34:22, vs. 25:38 for the Rams. They had 7 punts, 19 first downs, and 5 penalties, which resulted in 35 yards for the Rams.
Next week, the Cardinals take on the visiting Buffalo Bills. The Cardinals will be looking to redeem themselves in front of the fan base and media, and keep the NFC West lead.
And luckily for every Cardinals fan out there, this game won't be broadcasted to the entire nation on national TV. Like this game was... "We're still 4-1, we're still 4-1, we're still 4-1."
