NFL picks against the spread: Houston set up for another loss

We handicap the late Sunday games using the Vegas spread

Wesley Hitt

The set of late games on Sunday in the NFL are a some snoozers, a train wreck and a really good night game. The point spreads are actually pretty large. Read on to see who we pick.

New York Jets at Seattle Seahawks (-7): Seattle is awesome at home. The Jets are not so good. The Seahawks play very good defense. The Jets play badly on offense. Pick: Seahawks, -7.

St. Louis Rams at San Francisco 49ers (-12.5): The Rams are not very good and the Niners are. The Rams are on the road the Niners are at home. Oddly enough, with the large point spread, less than 60 percent of the money is on San Fran. I just don't see the Rams making a game of this. Pick: Niners, -12.5.

Dallas Cowboys (-1) at Philadelphia Eagles: This is the train wreck game that everyone has to watch. Unfortunately, with how unpredictable both teams can be, I would not bet this game to save my life. Dallas keeps finding ways to lose, and the Eagles can do nothing against pass rushers. If you put a gun to my head, I take the Eagles and the point, but I'm not confident in doing so.

Houston Texans at Chicago Bears (even line): This is a straight up pick with no line, but the Bears are coming off of a 51-point performance. The Chicago defense has allowed only nine TDs, The will face a very balanced Houston offense. However, with the defensive injuries to the Texans, including Shawn Cody now to anchor the middle, it won't be enough. Pick: Bears, straight up.
