The main storyline for the game between the Arizona Cardinals and New York Jets has to be the two struggling teams with quarterback issues story. That is the big story, but what about the game that will be played on the field? Someone has to win the game, right? (That is, unless you are the Niners and Rams). Pro Football Focus gives us three matchups to watch for. Who do you think will come out ahead in those focuses?
Focus one is essentially Larry Fitzgerald and Antonio Cromartie. Cromartie is having a very good year in coverage and Fitz is not having a good year. PFF supposes that it will be tough for Fitz. However, if there is one type of coverage that Mr. Fitzgerald seems to go off on, it is single press coverage.
I give Fitz the advantage here, despite Cromartie's stats.
The next matchup is the Jets pass rushers taking on the Arizona offensive line.
The line for the Cardinals has struggled to say the least, although with much better results over the past couple of game, is the play of rookies Nate Potter and Bobby Massie.
I give the pass rushers the edge in this game,
The last key thing to watch out for was the Jets running game against the Arizona linebacking corp.
The issue here is that the team is allowing running backs to gain yards. Paris Lenon and Daryl Washington, though, are having very good years defending the run.
My winner? That is probably the Jets. They have the guys to run the ball, but Arizona's solid defense has not been in defending the run.
What are your predictions for these matchups?
