Arizona Cardinals promote Ricky Lumpkin, waive Mike Gibson

It seems that injuries on the defensive line will force the team's hand here

Christian Petersen

It was just a couple of days ago that offensive lineman Mike Gibson was signed by the Arizona Cardinals. He was brought on to give the team depth and competition at the center position. Rookie Scott Wedige is now the starter after Lyle Sendlein had his season ended with an injury and his backup, Rich Ohrnberger, had the same thing happen.

On Saturday, the team released Gibson and promoted defensive lineman Ricky Lumpkin from the practice squad.

The likely reason for the change is the injury situation on the defensive line. Four defensive lineman were on the injury report this week -- Dan William, Ron Talley, Nick Eason and Calais Campbell.

Campbell was limited all week. Williams and Talley did not practice at all until Friday and even then were both limited that day. Nick Eason fully practiced on Friday, but was limited the rest of the week.

Lumpkin gives the team more depth, and will probably only see time on the field on defense unless someone has a setback with their injuries.
