Peyton Manning expands search with Dolphins, Titans meetings
Quarterback Peyton Manning's alleged goal of choosing a new employer by Tuesday, the beginning of the NFL new year, likely won't be reached. Word From the Birds Blog - A little extra to spend
The NFL announced Monday, with free agency so close, that they were hitting the Redskins and Cowboys with removal of cap space this year and next because of violations when the league was uncapped in 2011. The details aren’t as important for the Cards except for the part where the league is giving that extra cap space to 28 other teams (the Saints and Raiders had minor infractions so they don’t get extra space, but they aren’t docked either.)

ManningWatch: Team ownership matters - NFC West Blog - ESPN
Visions of Allen's Seahawks squirming while Peyton Manning visited the Arizona Cardinals over the weekend might not mean much if Manning signs outside the NFC West or agrees to visit Seattle after all. But with Arizona holding a clear edge over the Seahawks at this point in the process, the shrinking ownership gap in the division is worth our attention.
azcentral.com blogs - Kent Somers - This (salary) cap is tight
The new "league year" starts at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, meaning teams can begin to pursue free agents. It also is the time when teams have to come into compliance with the salary cap, which is set at $120.6 million. According to Profootballtalk.com, the Cardinals were $16.4 million over that cap as of last Friday. PFT also reported that the Cardinals elected to carry over $2 million of cap space from 2011, $5 million less than they could have. Those are startling numbers, no question. A couple of Cardinals sources said the team's situation isn't as dire as the $16.4 million overage indicates.

For the record: Warner, Cards met in middle - NFC West Blog - ESPN
Ken Whisenhunt's willingness to adapt his offense often comes up as a potential Arizona Cardinals selling point for free-agent quarterback Peyton Manning. There is truth to the reasoning. Whisenhunt and his offensive staff did make changes to maximize what Kurt Warner could offer the Cardinals. But the increasingly forgotten reality, in my view, is that Warner had to change his approach before Whisenhunt would even name him the starter.

Texans bid farewell to Matt Leinart | ProFootballTalk
Quarterback Matt Leinart finally got his chance last season in Houston, after Matt Schaub messed up his foot. And then Leinart promptly messed up his collarbone, again. And then T.J. Yates did enough the rest of the way to merit the No. 2 spot on the depth chart. So on a day that featured the unexpected release of tackle Eric Winston, the Texans have made a less surprising move, cutting the 10th pick in the 2006 draft, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
