NFL Free Agency 2012: Is Husain Abdullah An Option For Arizona?

Tommie Harris was the subject of examination yesterday for our RotB free agency series. Harris played as a 3-4 defensive end last season for the Chargers and is now an unrestricted free agent, looking for a new home. 73% of the voters believe that the Cardinals should offer him a contract and bring him to the desert to backup Calais Campbell and Darnell Dockett. If healthy, Harris can undoubtedly be an effective player in this league still.

Today, we will look at a player that just so happens to be the brother of a current Cardinals free agent. Hamza Abdullah has been with the Cards since 2009 and is now an unrestricted free agent. Whether he will return to the team or not is unknown at this point. He primarily serves as a special teams player, but he does have some experience at both safety positions.

In the event that Hamza does not return, how about bringing in his brother, Husain Abdullah?

As a safety, Husain has much more experience on the field than Hamza, even though he has been in the NFL three less years. He has been a starter for the Vikings since the beginning of the 2010 season and has played both strong and free safety. On top of that, he has spent some time playing as a cornerback as well. This truly shows how versatile Husain Abdullah truly is.

Although his 2011 season was cut short due to injury, Husain Abdullah was somewhat productive in his nine games played. Pro Football Focus gave him a grade of +5.3 in run defense and a -3.0 in pass coverage. He allowed a completion rate of 63.2% and a total of 24 receptions on the year. Abdullah also allowed 3 touchdowns scored in his coverage, but he had 3 interceptions and 4 passes defended to somewhat balance that statistic out.

Now that he is an unrestricted free agent, Abdullah could be looking for another stadium to call his home. I don't envision him being overly pricey and any deal he signs likely won't be a long-term one. He would be able to come to Arizona as a more than capable backup to Adrian Wilson and Kerry Rhodes and could start in case one of them gets injured. Rashad Johnson is still a question mark as both a free agent and as a playmaker, so I see this as being a solid potential move.

What do you think about bringing in Husain Abdullah to the Arizona Cardinals? Would he be a fit? Tell us in the comments below and vote in the poll.
