It's a day after the 'Rookie' Minicamps and the Cardinals have signed 4 players to their 90 man offseason roster, bringing the total number of players on this team to 89. Lets see who those 4 players are, and what they can bring to the Arizona Cardinals.
Javarris James: The cousin of former NFL Runningback and former Arizona Cardinal Edgerrin James, isn't a rookie. He was signed by the Colts after the 2010 draft, released, picked up by the Patriots, released again, signed by the Redskins for the Practice Squad, before finally being resigned by the Colts. After being signed by the Colts in week 5 of the 2010 season, he ran for 112 yards and 6 TD's.
He may not have much of a chance to make the team. Beanie Wells and Ryan Williams have the top two roster spots locked up, Larod Stephens-Howling shouldn't be going anywhere, Alfonso Smith either. He looks like he'll be a camp body primarily, but then again, weirder things have happened in the NFL.
Ricky Schmitt: The next guy signed is K/P Ricky Schmitt. He came was signed by Arizona as an UDFA in 2007 but released. He was signed by the Niners and that was the only time he has been able to record Regular Season stats, going 2-3 on his Field Goals (one was blocked) and 2-2 on his Extra Points. On his kickoffs he averages 65 yards per kick which is nearly as good as Feely.
I like Schmitt, his demeanor each time he gets released by a team is one I admire. I don't think however that his personality will win him the knod over Feely. I see him competing with Zastudil for the starting Punter role though.
Eddie Elder: Our first UDFA player from this years draft. In 2 years with the Sun Devils, he racked up 130 tackles, 5.5 for a loss, 1 sack, and 3 INT's. Started 20 of 25 career games. I see another Camp Body. We have Bethel, Johnson, Wilson, and Rhodes, there who will more than likely be our Number 1 and Number 2 players at the Safety Positions. He did have limited time on Special Teams whil at ASU, so he may have a chance to make the roster for that. Larry Parker: Is a CB out of San Diego State University. He was their Primary Punt Returner and backup CB. (Fun Fact: Only SDSU Aztec to force a fumble and recover it himself) By the fact that they say he was the Primary Punt Returner, gives me the idea the Cardinals are bringing him in for a chance at Special Teams. He certainly will not be returning Punts, but the Cardinals do need someone other than LSH to return Kickoffs, and I don't believe that Whisenhunt will be putting Patrick Peterson there.
