Time for todays links, and still not much worth mentioning. Mostly stuff relating to the rest of Arizona and the NFL because the Cardinals aren't doing anything that is getting in the news right now. But we are in one of the down periods for NFL news where all you really hear about is draft picks being signed....
Phoenix Coyotes avoid elimination with Game 4 win over Los Angeles Kings
In spite of the on-ice mismatch in the previous three games, a sweep just didn't seem to fit in the landscape of what's evolved into a surprisingly successful season by the Coyotes. All their triumphs, including victories in the first two rounds, would somehow have been overshadowed by a quick, four-game dismissal by the Kings in the Western Conference finals. It wouldn't have diminished what these feisty Coyotes have accomplished in a somewhat improbable run, but the gratification wouldn't have been as sweet. So with elimination looming in Game 4, the Coyotes finally swung back, delivering their best performance of the series en route to a 2-0 win in front of 18,402 at Staples Center on Sunday. The series shifts back to the Valley for a fifth game Tuesday with the Kings up 3-1.
Wade Miley leads Arizona Diamondbacks past Kansas City Royals
Justin Upton wasn't particularly fond of home-plate umpire Vic Carapazza's strike zone on Sunday. Two pitches after telling Carapazza just how he felt about it in the eighth inning, it didn't matter. Upton lifted a high fly ball to right field that helped score Gerardo Parra from third base, and the insurance run motivated the Diamondbacks to complete a 2-0 shutout of the Kansas City Royals and capture their first series win in seven tries. Arizona got seven strong innings from starter Wade Miley (5-1) and lock-down relief pitching from David Hernandez and J.J. Putz to finish a seven-game trip with a 4-3 record.
Phoenix Mercury's Diana Taurasi sits, team gets routed by Minnesota Lynx
The Minnesota Lynx finally put their last celebration behind them. Now the focus on becoming the WNBA's first repeat champions in 10 years is fully clear. Seimone Augustus scored 19 points before leaving with bruised ribs, and the Lynx didn't let up in a 105-83 season-opening victory over the Diana Taurasi-less Phoenix Mercury on Sunday.
Arizona QB Nick Davila passes for 11 TDs as Rattlers win at Utah Blaze
Nick Davila tied an Arena Football League record with 11 touchdown passes, including seven to Maurice Purify, and the Rattlers rolled to an 86-70 victory over the Utah Blaze on Saturday night in Salt Lake City. The win, coupled by San Jose's loss to San Antonio on Saturday, moved the Rattlers into a first-place tie with the SaberCats (7-3) in the Western Division.
