Calais Campbell made a name for himself in 2011, racking up sacks, tackles, pass deflections and blocked kicks. However, despite his overall season performance, whether you agree or not, he did not make the list of Pro Football Focus' top 10 overall weekly performances from 3-4 DEs.
However, there were two Arizona Cardinals defensive linemen that did make the list, one that might surprise you.
Darnell Dockett's Week 4 play against the New York Giants has him fourth on the PFF list.
Not a day the right side of the Giants' offensive line will want to remember. Dockett walked away with four pressures, a fumble recovery, and drew a penalty for offensive holding. He was even more impressive in the run game and finished the day with two tackles for short gains and another two for a loss. Dockett can really turn it on when he wants to.
The other performance will probably surprise you. It was backup defensive lineman Vonnie Holliday in Week 17 against the Seattle Seahawks. He stepped in after Campbell got injured. It was the tenth best weekly performance at the position.
The hired gun of the NFL, wherever Holliday ends up you can count on him to produce. He didn't get on the field much for Arizona, but in the final week of the season he saw a season-high 38 snaps and responded with some stellar work. Two quarterback hits were all he accounted for rushing the passer, but three tackles for a loss, another for a short gain, and drawing a holding penalty are the credentials of a quality performance.
Campbell did not get completely shut out. His pass rushing performance against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 14 was ranked tied for seventh best in that aspect.
What do you all think? How surprised were you to see Holliday on this list?
Should he have been there? Should Campbell have been on the overall list, especially considering the numbers he put up in the team's first game against the Seahawks (2.5 sacks, 10 tackles).
