Another of the 17 undrafted rookies that the Arizona Cardinals signed was receiver Tre Gray, who played for the Richmond Spiders, just as Tim Hightower did. Here is a little more about Gray, who is a little guy.
The team press release introduces him like this:
Richmond wide receiver TRE GRAY (5-10, 175) set single season school records with 95 receptions for 1,187 yards (12.4 yard avg.) and four touchdowns as a senior in 2011. He was named to the AP All-American third team and was selected to the All-CAA first team. He set Richmond career marks with 243 receptions for 3,101 yards to go along with 14 touchdowns in 50 games played. He was also selected first-team All-CAA as a junior in 2010 and was picked third-team All-CAA as a sophomore in 2009. He led the Spiders in receiving in each of his final three seasons.
Gray is obviously undersized. He has average speed, as his Pro day 40 time was 4.58-4.59 seconds. Well...average for receivers. He is not particularly strong, getting up only 12 reps of 225.
He can return kicks.
He also understands he is not a top candidate for the NFL.At his pro day he said, "I know I'm a huge risk. Small school. My size. Not a big name. I'll be grateful for an opportunity."
He has his opportunity with Arizona. It will be a tough shot to get him on the roster. It looks like the active roster will probably be set with Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Floyd, Andre Roberts, Early Doucet, DeMarco Sampson and then guys fighting over a perhaps sixth spot.
