Darrell Bevell to interview with Arizona Cardinals today

With Mike McCoy being hired by the Chargers, the Cardinals have set their sights on Seattle offensive coordinator, Darrell Bevell.

News broke on Tuesday that Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy was set to land his first head coaching gig. Unfortunately for Michael Bidwill and Steve Keim, that job was not with the Arizona Cardinals, but with the San Diego Chargers instead.

So, what happens now for the Cardinals with McCoy out of the picture? Well, it appears they have their sights set on poaching a divisional foe. Both Kent Somers and Ian Rapoport, a reporter for NFL.com, have confirmed that the Cards are set to interview Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator, Darrell Bevell.

Bevell is a local guy who actually went to high school with Cardinals beat writer, Darren Urban. He has roots in the Valley, so the fit for him makes sense. The fit might also make sense for the Cardinals as they appear intent on hiring an offensive minded coach for the head coaching position.

What this also means for the Cardinals is that they are running out of options. While there is no rush to hire someone, the longer they wait, more good coaches and coordinators are going to continue coming off the market.

What this also shows is that the Cardinals do not seem to think that Ray Horton is ready for a head coaching position. He is still under contract as the team's defensive coordinator for one more season and that may be the position he stays in. The only way he can move to another team before that contract expires is if he is hired as a head coach.
