Among all the noise surrounding the scandal about Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito, there has been a report that should give Arizona Cardinals something to talk about. Ian Rapoport reported that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will seek a trade after the 2013 season.
According to Rapoport, the team already fielded trade offers for him last offseason.
If you read forums of Steelers fans, the biggest team being thrown around is the Arizona Cardinals, as it would reunite Big Ben with Bruce Arians, who from 2007-2011 was Pittsburgh's offensive coordinator.
The truth is that it would not be surprising if Arizona was involved with those trade offers the Steelers fielded in the offseason. They were looking for a quarterback and they did make a deal, only it was for Carson Palmer.
Entering Week 10, Roethlisberger had thrown for 2330 yards, completing over 64 percent of his passes. He has 12 touchdown passes and nine interceptions for a passer rating of 88.5.
Palmer has completed over 61 percent of his passes and has thrown 10 touchdowns to go with 14 interceptions for 1913 yards and a passer rating of 72.4.
Palmer is due to make $8 million in salary next year and has a salary cap number of $10 million. If cut, it would leave $6 million dead money.
Roethlisberger, 31 years old, has two years remaining on his contract. He will make $12.1 million in 2014 and $11.6 million in 2015.
Could the Cardinals get involved should this report be true? Should they? He has been one of the league's best signal callers, but he is on the wrong side of 30 and has missed 17 games since 2008.
