The "Good, Bad, and Ugly" series on ROTB doesn't come out until Tuesday. But in a brief synopsis, it's probably going to be a Good Nick Foles (21-34 237 3 TDs O INT again), BAD calls (Shaugnessey holding on last drive, Jerraud Powers interference right before half, Matthieu holding on Peterson INT, etc..) and the UGLY tight end coverage that compiled a 24- 21 Arizona Cardinals loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, breaking the Cardinals four game winning streak..
Carson Palmer( 24-41 302 with 2 TDs, 5 sacks both INTs underthrown) was okay with a slow start (two TOs in the first two drives) but it was the continued lack of covering the opposing TE that weighed heavily in the loss.
"We had a chance to win it, multiple opportunities to make plays," Palmer said. "You can't come into a place like this and play against a good team in front of a crowd like this and not win that battle."
"We learned a lot of lessons today, what playoff atmosphere is on the road and how to overcome it, how to handle it when bad things happen," Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said.
Former University of Arizona QB Nick Foles (NFC Player Of The Month for November)broke Michael Vick's former record of 224 passes without an interception hitting on 233. (Penalty on apparent INT, doesn't count, - just like Palmer's INT during a timeout a few weeks ago.) Peyton Manning holds the record with 20/0 for starting a season.
Arizona's defense had previously allowed the Rams' Jared Cook 7 catches fir 141 yards and 2 TDs. SF's Vernon Davis 8/ 180/2. Jimmy Graham of the Saints 9/134/2. Also allowed touchdowns to Seattle's Zach Wilson, Indy's Coby Fleener and Jacksonville's Danny Noble. The Cardinals continued that bad trend with 3 TDs to Zach Ertz and Brent Celek. Foles had only 3 TDs to TEs all season. Philadelphia Eagles hadn't thrown 3 TDs to a Tight End in a game since 1989 when Keith Jackson hauled a trio.
Carson Palmer had previous quarterback rating games of 116.0, 93.4, 119.0 and 114.0 during the team's 4 game winning streak. He finished with 85.6 against the Eagles with a fumble and an interception during the first two drives and was sacked 5 times.
Micheal Floyd and Larry Fitzgerald caught touchdowns while Rashard Mendenhall (with Andre Ellington held out with a bad knee) ran 18 times for 74 yards and the Cardinals fell to 7-5, the same record as the Eagles with Philadelphia now obviously holding the tie-breaker between the teams.
The Arizona Cardinals will face the 5-6 St. Louis Rams next week home at the University of Phoenix.
I assume this means the end of the mustache.
