The Arizona Cardinals, despite their 5-11 2012 campaign, have the NFL's top coach. he didn't do his 2012 work with the Cardinals, though. New head coach Bruce Arians was named the 2012 AP Coach of the Year at the NFL's awards ceremony on Saturday.
Arians was the offensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts in 2012, but took over head coaching duties when first year head coach Chuck Pagano was diagnosed with leukemia and he stepped away to receive treatment. The Colts finished the season 11-5 and made the playoffs just one year after being the worst team in the league with a 2-14 record in 2011.
Arians acted as head coach for nine of those wins, finishing 9-3 in Pagano's stead.
He was hired in January by the Arizona Cardinals to be their head coach.
Do you doubt whether this hire was a good one for the Cards? How often do you get to hire the previous year's best coach? That is just what the Cardinals did with their hiring of Arians.
Say what you want about Ray Horton or the other candidates that the team actually interviewed, Bruce Arians was definitely had the best credentials out of all of them.
So congrats to BA and to the Cards.
