There hasn't been a ton of success by USC quarterbacks in the NFL. Draft prospect Matt Barkley is determined to buck that trend. Drafting him does not come without some major questions. He is coming off of a shoulder injury that is right now keeping him from participating in the drills in the NFL Combine.
There are some questions about his arm strength and hi numbers personally dropped as well as his team falling from national championship contenders to 7-6.
But even with those questions, he wants teams to simply look at the game film everyone has on him.
Regarding his arm strength, he disagrees that he lacks it. "Look at the tape. Watch the tape," he said. "I'm not going to go through certain throws, but you can watch the tape where I've made throws in tight windows. I can make every NFL throw that you need. So I would disagree."
He was asked if NFL teams have asked him about his dropoff from 2011 to 2012. "No, I haven't heard anything about that," he answered. "They know football. They've watched the film. They haven't questioned that."
Barkley is hoping to start from the get-go. While he would accept a backup role, he made it clear that he plans on making contributions immediately.
"It'd be an opportunity to learn (as a backup), but my plan and what I hope to do is to start right away, to make an impact right away," said Barkley. "We'll see what happens and where I end up. My ultimate goal is to be playing come September."
Barkley is very possibly going to be available with the seventh pick for the Cardinals to take. What do you think? Would you like to take another stab at a USC quarterback?
