Arizona Cardinals have spoken with Markus Wheaton, Christine Michael

It appears the Cardinals are seeking some depth at their offensive skill positions.

Over the next couple of months, you will mostly hear chatter about who the Cardinals should take with the seventh overall pick in the first round. It will likely be a player that comes in and starts right away and it will be one of the best players in the NFL Draft this year, so it stands to reason that they will receive a lot of press.

What you won't hear as much about (unless you are here on ROTB) are the mid and late round picks. The Cardinals have plenty of holes on their roster to fill and they have room to add depth all throughout the ranks. Apparently, that includes wide receiver.

According to Mike Jurecki of the local radio station XTRA 910, the Cards have already spoken with some pretty high profile names at the WR position:

Wheaton is expected to be a late first round or second round pick in the upcoming draft. He's a big receiver that rana 4.45 40-yard dash and did 20 reps of 225 pounds on the bench, best among all receivers. I don't see the Cardinals taking a guy that plays a position that they can improve on, but really don't need to so highly. If they grab a receiver, it will be someone in a late round to replace Early Doucet.

Then there are reports that they have also interviewed a running back. Per Jurecki:

Running back is a much greater need than WR, but still not one they will likely address early. Even with Michael's stellar showing at the NFL Combine, don't expect him to suddenly jump into the first round discussions. He is still a mid-round guy that the Cards could definitely wind up taking.

But again, the problem with Michael has always been his ability to stay healthy. The Cardinals already have two oft injured backs atop their depth chart in Beanie Wells and Ryan Williams. I would think they would look at adding someone a bit sturdier should those two both go down yet again.

What do you make of this? Is it smoke and mirrors that the Cardinals have chatted with these two players? Or is there some valid interest in them? Tell us in the comments section below.
