The Cardinals continue to stockpile their Defensive talents signing former Minnesota Vikings linebacker, Jasper Brinkley to a two year deal. Brinkely stands at 6'1 and 252 pounds, making him the possible piece to fit next to Daryl Washington inside. This is contrary to earlier reports by Washington Redskins beat writers that Lorenzo Alexander was informed he'd start on Defense. This likely ends the Cardinals run for former USC standout backer, Rey Maualuga.
Brinkley had a career year last season with 117 tackles, two sacks, and three forced fumbles starting 15 games. The former fifth round selection back in 2009 has only started 19 of 48 potential games but in his 19 starts he has showed potential to be good in the NFL.
This move also symbolizes the Cardinals Offensive plans. With Stanton and Mendenhall being added via Free Agency, the Cardinals appear to be heading towards an offensive based draft, as the majority of our Free Agency signings have been on the other side of the ball.
On a side note, Raiders defensive end, Matt Shaughness, is meeting with the Cardinals this evening.
