The paycut that the QB will take appears not to be drastic.

The rumor that won't go away appears to be entering its final stages of rumor and becoming a reality. According to multiple reports the trade that would send quarterback Carson Palmer to the Arizona Cardinals for a late round draft pick is close to being finalized.

The first step for this to happen was for the Oakland Raider to acquire quarterback Matt Flynn from the Seattle Seahawks, which reportedly has happened.

The Cardinals and the Raiders will exchange Palmer for a late round pick, and then Palmer will redo his deal to play for the Cardinals. Arizona has two picks in the sixth round, so perhaps that is the pick that will be moved.

As for reworking his deal, Palmer is not going to play on the cheap. The report is that, instead of the $13 million he was due this year, he will make $8 million.

He will immediately improved the quarterback position for the Cardinals. How will that translate into wins? That is yet to be seen. Even with Palmer, the Cardinals could still be seen as the fourth best team (worst) in their division.
